In the short story, "The Lottery", there are many
themes. I think the most important one is desperation. All of the women are
desperate for power, or being able to be equal to men. In the story, women
complain that they don't really belong with their other family anymore. It's
mostly them, their husband, their kids, and their husbands family. When their
husbands pick the slips, they should have a chance, too. There's no reason they
should be treated worse then men. One person was late for the Lottery because she was washing dishes. Her husband should've
been the one doing that, not her. And, of course, she was the one that ended
up.
